Stage Door Studios, Kolkata is an active theatre studio and repertoire based in Kolkata. We conduct, theatre workshops drawing from interdisciplinary art forms like site specific theatre and the workshops meander into the various platforms of musical theatre and a variety of theatre productions. Our recent production called Rangpeeth frequently staged at the Academy of Fine Arts has been beautifully received, appreciated and hence we will be celebrating more repeat shows constantly. Two more new theatre productions are coming up by stage door Kolkata the rehearsals of which are conducted at SD studio. In between these theatre productions we conduct intense theatre workshops for beginners, learners as well as hard core performers. While learning in workshops you shall be a part of the learning repertoire to get hands on experience revolving around craft and acting. You will be actively performing in the team - for our shows to garner the experience needed - to be able to go beyond the given.
Theatre is essentially and always ought to be inter disciplinary. The narrative of which cannot have one single focal point. The translation of theory to practice and practice to performance, and performance to the creation of splendor is all the work of the artists and the task of art itself.
The next chapter of the stage door theatre workshops is to create an integrated approach for musical theatre and interdisciplinary theatre, movements, psycho somatic body and about narratives from personal to political.

Space: do you feel the urge to perform ? The urge to know more about the mysteries of theatre and performative arts? Do you want to create your own space within you to dedicate time towards theatre?

We will learn how to approach space as a theatre enthusiast. As an actor and as a director.
Space and its vastness can be scary to fathom- but as a theatre actor your job is to own the space through your craft- the space here is personal and impersonal.
Text: text and narratives - one of the prime realms of theatre and acting.
This module is prepared to show you how to approach text.
To understand text is to begin the journey as an actor.
How? That’s what you get to learn here.
Body and voice: the prime factors weaving together the craft of theatre. Theatre is an interdisciplinary performance form- where you are the actor, singer, the prop, the stage altogether.
You are the entity in theatre that is performance in movement- in form and in narratives playing out.
Voice and movement- is the very site for your story. The main focal points.
The main perspective enriching the audience.
How can you prepare your voice and movements to be all-encompassing? This module shows you that.
Emoting through music, silence and words.
The enigma created through voice and music so that every scene blends into the ease of storytelling. How do you prepare for a musical theatre? What do you display? What are the skills to be unearthed for a musical theatre production?
Stage, composition and speech: do you fear that the world at large will judge your narrarive, your speech or your performance? This is every actor’s fear at first, then the actor gradually learns to transcend the fears and get into the mode of performance.
In daily life we are always performing without knowing it- fear gets instilled however because of norms and judgements. Theatre teaches you how to be your authentic self despite the fear-
In this module you shall learn the techniques to speak and perform without fear, without self doubt and without lurking shyness.
You will learn stage composition for theatre and acting and you will learn the techniques which get involved in order to compose a play or to compose your acting narrative.
This module is to get you prepared to comprehend theatre- and then to actively be a theatre worker (actor, director, technician, writer, etc and beyond)
Power of words through dialogues and storytelling:
Through various techniques and exercises you shall learn how to deliver your dialogues in the most meaningful way depending on the textual base of the narratives.
You will learn how to create your plays and narratives , while doing so you get to learn about improvisation in theatre (and in life) - to be present in the now! , to be able to let go of the structure of the text to create your own narrative- leading you into the magical space of improvisation.
All in all you get to understand how music is an integral part of theatre too! How to approach music in theatre.
Voice, modulation and techniques.
You will learn how to get rid of stage and speech fright! You will learn how to season your confidence in totality.
Theatre is an important vehicle- an agent of change and transformation . Theatre is a totality of the society at large. Be a part of it !

Rijita Chatterjee is an actor, director and theatre trainer of repute with a rich experience in the field of acting and singing. After a substantial experience in Dramatic arts in Kolkata she had been to the University of Surrey, UK, for a special training in acting and theatre. Thereafter, she had been to the premier institute of Music and Drama in London, LAMDA, for an in-depth understanding of musicality and performance. Recently, she had an opportunity to explore Activism via Theatre at the University College Cork in Ireland. She has worked with many renowned directors in theatre.
